The Moment that Sparked Our Mission
In 2024, during a Professional Dialogue Practitioner program, I encountered the concept of
Skillful Conversation, developed by Peter Garrett and Jane Ball. They define it as a
conversation where we “reveal the thinking behind our words and actions” — to deepen
understanding and improve decision-making.
That idea struck a chord. I began asking leaders and teams, “Do you have skillful
conversations?” Most paused, reflected, and then replied, “Not really.” What followed were rich dialogues about what true collaboration really looks like — and why it’s missing from
so many day-to-day interactions.
I kept wondering: if teams aren’t having skillful conversations, how are they making
thoughtful, informed decisions? And if decisions are made in meetings — why are so many
meetings draining instead of energizing?
The same patterns showed up around learning and feedback. So many teams lacked the
space for reflection, peer coaching, or meaningful dialogue.
That’s when Skillful Collaboration was born — a commitment to helping teams everywhere
grow the human skills of collaboration.
While Skillful Collaboration began with a personal insight, it’s now a shared project — built
with others, and for others — to support teams who are serious about learning how to work
well together.
We created it as a space for learning, reflection, and real practice — where teams build
trust, think clearly together, and strengthen the everyday habits that make collaboration
work.
Through experiential masterclasses, insightful assessments, and guided team support, we
help teams turn everyday collaboration into a shared strength.
