I was just in a conversation with a good friend of mine. We’ve known each other for over 30
years.
She is working for a large multinational company in the HR talent team and is leading a
strategic change to upskill and re-skill the organization.
We were talking about how the skills of collaboration (working together) seem so
fundamental to this type of strategic change. And as AI becomes more important, the human
skills of working together become equally, if not more important.
During our conversation I told her my vision for this Skillful Collaboration initiative:
“A World of Togetherness.”
She smiled, sighed, and said, “Yes, that is so you.”
I smiled too. A big smile.
Often, when we set off on a new project or initiative, it doesn’t begin with a vision. It begins
with the spark of an idea—emerging through an experience, an observation, or a conversation.
Over time, with more reflection and conversations, the idea may grow and take shape into
something useful—or even valuable.
If we truly believe in the idea, we start talking with more people to test the waters. Then we
progress it further, develop a concept and a value proposition. We wonder if people may be
willing—even happy—to buy our product or service. So we finalize a prototype, run some
experiments, gather data, and at the same time start creating sales and marketing channels.
And at some point, we think: “Hey, what is this project truly about? Where would I love to go with this project. Holy
moly—we’d better create a vision.”
For me, a vision is like a dream—an ideal. It’s in the distance. It’s where I would love to
to go and what I’d love to help emerge.
“A World of Togetherness.”
That’s my vision and my dream.
As my good friend said with her smile and her words: “Yes, that is so you.”
I’m really a dreamer. And I’m also a pragmatist, I believe that A World of Togetherness is possible.
I believe it’s possible through learning, developing and applying the skills of collaboration—the skills of
working together.
Where do you want to go with your projects or team? What is your dream for the world?
